180 = (8x-30 ) + y y is the other angle to make the straight line

y= 180 - (8x-30)

y=180 - 8x +30

y = 210-8x

180 = (x-5) + (4x+26) +y the three angles of a triangle

180 = x-5 +4x+26 + 210-8x

180 = -3x +210

-30 = -3x

10 = x

Answer:

(D) 17

Explanation:

Use the Exterior Angle Theorem.

Add the two interior angles and place it equal to the exterior angle

8x - 30 = x - 5 + 4x + 26

Combine like terms

8x - 30 = 5x + 21

Isolate the x. Subtract 5x from both sides and add 30 to both sides

8x (-5x) - 30 (+30) = 5x (-5x) + 21 (+30)

8x - 5x = 21 + 30

3x = 51

Isolate the x. Divide 3 from both sides

(3x)/3 = (51)/3

x = 51/3

x = 17

(D) 17 is your answer
