Transformer is used to change the voltage from higher value to lower value
It is done by changing the number of coils in primary and secondary coils
The working equation is given as
![(V_s)/(V_p) = (N_s)/(N_p)](https://img.qammunity.org/2019/formulas/physics/middle-school/lm8fgfradelxn93dtb71okten424h3p4qh.png)
here we have
= Secondary coil voltage = 120 V
= Primary coil voltage = 240,000 V
= Turns in secondary coil
= Turns in primary coil
Now by using the equation above
![(120)/(240,000) = (N_s)/(N_p)](https://img.qammunity.org/2019/formulas/physics/middle-school/rm623lzlvxzg9hba8pnz0u5059stt27gfr.png)
now we have
![(N_p)/(N_s) = (240,000)/(120)](https://img.qammunity.org/2019/formulas/physics/middle-school/8f9zmuwzz21nut7n5dekmbipvrwuxtopif.png)
![(N_p)/(N_s) = 2000](https://img.qammunity.org/2019/formulas/physics/middle-school/2h94udsczvkxmnvyarud51rxxe2232haz5.png)
so the ratio must be 2000
