The name of the mosque is the madrasa mosque of the Sultan Hasan. It was noted for its size and for some innovative architectural features. Originally, the Mosque of Sultan Hassan was a madrasa, that is, a school dedicated to Islam. However, it acquired the status of a congregational mosque for the sermons on Fridays.
In the image you can see an internal space proceeded by a horseshoe arch that indicates the place to look when praying. It is often designed to give the impression of a door with arches or a passage to Mecca.
