a) By worship the ancestors, it provided kings and governors of legitimacy. This legitimacy needed to be reflected by their own deeds, wich demonstrates the ruler is worthy of such position. For extent, to be a good ruler and therefore a good citizen, your actions must keep the harmony of the cosmos, the natural order.

b) According to the main elements of Daoism, the cosmos is ruled by 3 forces. Two of those forces are opposed by complimentary at the same time: jing, Qi and Shen.

By keeping the harmony of the natural order, these religions have provided guidelines that can be also applied as social conventions and norms.
