Steps:

subtract 3 from both sides:

2x²-5x+1 - 3 = 3 - 3

Simplify:

2x² - 5x - 2 = 0

Solve with the quadratic formula :

for a = 2 , b = - 5 , c = - 2

x₁ = - ( - 5 ) +√ ( -5 )² - 4 * 2 ( - 2 ) / 2 * 2 =

x₁ = 5 + √ 41 / 4

x₂ = - ( - 5 ) - √ ( -5 )² - 4 * 2 ( - 2 ) / 2 * 2

x₂ = 5 - √ 41 / 4
