When they ask you to solve for y, they just want you to isolate it on one side of the equal sign (like how it is in a slope-intercept form equation). So to start:

2x + 3y = 12

3y = -2x + 12 Subtract 2x from both sides to move it to the right.

y =
(-2)/(3) + 4 Divide both sides by 3 to completely isolate the y value.

Notice how y =
(-2)/(3) + 4 is a slope-intercept form equation and is solved for y.

Therefore, the equation would be y =
(-2)/(3) + 4.

Hope this helps! :)
