in the 1300's a land route and a canal connected lubeck with hamburg, why do you think the linkage was so important?

It was important because it supported the Hanseatic trade route in the Baltik and the canal needed to be built between major trading cities. This was one of the great examples of co operation across borders in the North Europe in the area of free trade.
