Answer:

The equations

Explanation:

Write an equation that can be used to determine after how many months the boys will owe the same amount.

a) 1000-60x=600-20x

Determine algebraically and state in how many moth the two boys will owe the same amount. State the amount they will owe at this time.

b) Both owe $400

Ian claims that he will have his loan paid off 6 months after him and Ken owe the same amount. Determine and state if Ian is correct. Explain your reasoning.

c) Well, the number of months until he fully pays off his debt is 7 months. So no. Reasonably speaking, he would pay $60 a month. 10 months pass, and he now owes $400 dollars. It will take 6 months to pay $360, but he only has $40 dollars left to pay. So, because the number is less than 60, it will only take one month to fully pay off his debt

After x months Ian owes 1000 - 60x

After x months Ken owes 600 - 20x

They're equal when

1000 - 60x = 600 - 20x

400 = 40x

x = 10

Answer: 10 months
