How is American literature of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries different from literature written in Britain during the same period?

American literature was writing about things like liberty and freedom, while British literature focused more on stories that reflected their every day lives. Sorry if this isn’t the greatest answer; I frequently read both time periods, but that’s my best explanation.
