There are an infinite number of lines with slope of -3, as well as an infinite number of lines with y-intercept of 5. Part A: List the equations of three lines whose slope is -3. Part B: List the equations of three lines whose y-intercept is 5. Part C: State the equation of the only line with a slope of -3 and a y-intercept of 5. Explain why there is only one line that can be formed with this slope and y-intercept

Answer:

See below.

Explanation:

Part A:

y = -3x + 2

y = -3x + 10

y = -3x

Part B:

y = 2x + 5

y = -3x + 5

y = -2x + 5

Part C:

y = -3x + 5

There can only be one line with this slope and intercept because the expression is very simple. There are only two pieces of information that define a straight line: slope and intercept. There is nothing else that can be altered to impact the line.
