Two planes left an airport at noon. One flew east and the other flew west at twice the speed. After 3 hours the planes were 2700 mi apart.How fast was each plane flying

Let the speed of the plane which flew east is x miles per hour .

And the speed of the plane fles west is twice of the speed of the plane flew east. THerefore speed of plane flew west is 2x miles per hour .

According to question

`3*x + 2x*3 = 2700`

`3x+6x=2700`

`9x=2700`

Dividing both sides by 9

`x= 300 miles /  hour`Therefore speed of the plane flew east is 300miles/hour and speed of the plane flew west is 600miles/hour .
