Why do you think the Gettysburg address was so important? How do you think it affected the country?

Importance:
-Lincoln paid tribute to the Union Soldiers. They sacrificed their lives for equality.
-Reminded the people that war was meant to keep democracy and freedom alive

Affected the country by:
-Used speaking devices that restored a hope of creating a great country by saying “For the people, by the people.”
-His final sentence reminded citizens to keep continuing the work that the founding fathers once began

In the speech Abraham Lincoln invoked the principles of human equality contained in the Declaration of Independence and connected the sacrifices of the Civil War with the desire for a new birth of freedom, as well as the all-important preservation of the Union created in 1776 and its idea of self-government.
