Earth is closer to the Sun in December than it is in June. Explain why warmer air temperatures and summer occur in the Northern Hemisphere in June rather than in December.

Because the Earth's axis is tilted.

Due to the tilt of the Earth's axis, the rays of the sun hit the Earth at different angles. During some times, in America June, the sun hits the Northern hemisphere more, thus making it summer here and winter in other hemispheres.

Hope this helps!
