Liquid toluene is flowing through a pipe at a rate of 175 m3/h. (a) what is the mass flow rate of this stream in kg/min? (b) what is the molar flow rate in mol/s? (c) in fact, the answer to part (a) is only an approximation that is almost felder, richard m.; rousseau, ronald w.; bullard, lisa g.. elementary principles of chemical processes, 4th edition (page 72). wiley. kindle edition.

Density of Toluene
= 867 kg/m^3

Rate of flow of liquid toluene is
175m^3/h

a)To find the mass flow rate, we need to multiply volume flow rate by density:

Mass flow rate
=867 kg/m^3*175m^3/h=867 kg/m^3*175m^3/60 min=2.53*10^3kg/min

(because 1 hour =60 min)

b)
Number\hspace{1mm}of\hspace{1mm}moles=\frac{Given\hspace{1mm}mass}{Molar\hspace{1mm}mass}

Molar Mass of Toluene=92.14 g/mol

Molar\hspace{1mm} flow\hspace{1mm} rate= \frac{Mass\hspace{1mm} flow \hspace{1mm}rate}{Molar\hspace{1mm} Mass}

Molar\hspace{1mm} flow\hspace{1mm} rate=\frac2.53*10^6g/mol}{92.14g*60s}=4.57*10^2 mol/s
