The skin acts as the outer protective shield for the internal organs present in the body. it act as a barrier and protects the organs from damage from heat, injury, light and the infections. When the skin is damaged, such as in the second and the third-degree burns, this protective barrier is broken, and the internal organs are exposed to damage and infections as the bacteria now have a direct access to the inner organs. The bacteria breeding in the burn wounds are often antibiotic-resistant and fatal. Hence, the antibiotics taken by Tessa might not work on them and further increase her risk of infection.
