Answer:

The estimated quotient is equal to 3

Explanation:

Remember that when you say nearest ten you reffer to rounding up or rounding down to the near multiple of 10.

1. Estimate the nearest ten for the divisor

25.98>25

As the number 25.98 is greater than 25 you must round up to the next ten that is 30.

2. Estimate the nearest ten for the dividend:

Note that if I add "4 zero decimals" to number 5 (5.0000), and then compare with 5.0299 it’s evident that 5.0299 is greater than 5.

5.0299 > 5.0000

As the number is greater than 5 you round it up for the next ten number which is 10.

3. Perform the mathematical operation diving 30 by 10:

(30)/(10) =30 ÷ 10 = 3

4. The estimated quotient is equal to 3

To estimate this quotient, we are going to first round our dividend and divisor so that they are whole numbers. Because this is an estimate, we are trying to get numbers that easily divide into one another. For this reason, I am going to round 25.98 down to 25 and 5.0299 down to 5. This gives us the following expression:

25/5

To simplify, we can divide.

25/5 = 5

However, the quotient is supposed to be estimated to the nearest ten. This means that we must round up (because everything 5 and over rounds up and everything 4 and under rounds down) to make your final answer 10.

Therefore, the answer is 10.

Hope this helps!
