You are applying fertilizer to a football field. The field is 360 feet long and 160 feet wide. You use 8 pounds of fertilizer per 1,000 square feet. The fertilizer comes in 50-pound bags. How many bags of fertilizer will you need to complete the job?

10 bags.

To find this, follow the steps below:

360 x 160 = 60,6000 ft2

60,600/1,000 = 60.6

60.6 x 8lbs = 484.8lb

484.8lb/50lb = 9.696 which is basically 10 bags.

You first have to calculate the area to fertlize, the formula to do so would be:

A=W*L

Which is the same as

A=360ft*160ft

This will be equal to

A=57,600

You then have to know hom much can you fertilize with a pound of fertilizer.

(1000)/(8)=(x)/(1)

If you clear this equation you´ll have:


x=(1*(1000))/(8)

This equals

x=125

So now we know that you can fertilize 125 squared feet with 1 pound of fertilizer.

Now you divide the total area between the 125 feet.

Amount of pounds need=
(Total  area)/(Amount we can fertilize with one pound)

Amount of pounds needed:
(57,600)/(125)

Amount of pounds needed: 460.8

You know that every bag of fertilizer has 50 pounds so you dived the pounds you need by the number of pounds that the bag has.

Bags needed:
(460.8)/(50)

Bags needed: 9.216
