1) 1/2 + 4/8

Make the fractions have common denominators of 8. Multiply both the top and bottom of 1/2 by 4.

1/2 becomes 4/8

4/8 + 4/8 = 8/8, which =
\boxed {1}

2) 9/10 + 3/6

Multiply both the top and bottom of 9/10 by 3, and multiply the top and bottom of 3/6 by 5 so both fractions will have a common denominator of 30.

9/10 becomes 27/30 and 3/6 becomes 15/30

27/30 + 15/30 = 42/30

42/30 as a mixed number would be 1 12/30 =
\boxed {1~6/15}
(divide top and bottom of 12/30 by 2)

3) 1/8 + 10/24 + 7/6

Make the common denominator be 24. Multiply top and bottom of 1/8 by 3 and multiply top and bottom of 7/6 by 4.

1/8 becomes 3/24 and 7/6 becomes 28/24

3/24 + 10/24 + 28/24 = 41/24

41/24 as a mixed number would =
\boxed {1~17/24}
(24 fits into 41 one time and you are left with 17/24)

Your work:

1) you did it correctly

2) don't forget to simplify 1 12/30 even more by dividing the numerator and denominator by 2 - leave the whole number (1) alone

3) it's not 2 1/24 because 24 cannot go into 41 twice (24 goes into 41 once, then you are left with 41 - 24 = 17/24)
