Dyspareunia is the medical term for pain associated with sexual intercourse. Although this is historically defined by psychologic theories, an integrated pain model is much favorable with the current treatment approach. Thus, there must be a proper identification of the factors in order to reach a successful diagnosis. Most of the clinical conditions that revolve around the said disease are structural deformities or abnormalities of the uterus which includes vaginismus, atrophy and vulvodynia. Less common etiologies include endometriosis, pelvic congestion, adhesions or infections and pathologies of the adnexae.
