Read the passage. All this comes about particularly because I have in my mind's eye an image of what a perfect mother and wife should be, and in her whom I must call "Mother" I find no trace of that image. Which best identifies the author's tone towards her mother?

loving
appreciative
disappointed
longing

The tone of the author is disappointed.

An author's tone is the way the author feels when writing that certain literature. The author states that when she thinks of an ideal mother/wife, her mother doesn't fit that standard at all. This can help us to draw the conclusion that the daughter is disappointed that her mother is not a good mom/wife.
