If f(x) = x 2 + 1 and g(x) = 3x + 1, find [f(2)-g(1)] 2. 1 2 9

Put the argument value where the variable is, then evaluate.
For f(x), you want f(2).
f(2) = 2² + 1 = 4+1 = 5

For g(x), you want g(1).
g(1) = 3·1 +1 = 4

For [f(2) - g(1)] you want the difference of the above values.
[f(2) - g(1)] = [5 - 4] = 1
