#1 is false. The correct operation is multiplication.
#2 is true. I think "550 ft-lbs/sec" was the original definition of 1 HP .

A millimeter is 1/1000th of a meter, so 1 meter * 1000 ≠ 1 millimeter.
2. True.
Every horsepower is 550 foot-pounds, so 1 foot-pound * 550 equals 1 horsepower.
