Endoscopy is a non surgical procedure that is performed to examine and view the digestive tract through an endoscope--a flexible tube with light and camera.
Double balloon endoscopy is done by fitting a 200 cm long flexible, fiberoptic endoscope with an overtube that slides the full length of the endoscope. One balloon that can be inflated or deflated is placed at the tip of the overtube. Another balloon is located at the tip of the endoscope. Both balloons can be alternatively inflated to anchor the overtube or the endoscope to assist with the passage of either the overtube or endoscope.
