Sonji paid $25.00 for two scarves, which were different prices. When she got home she could not find the receipt. She remembered that one scarf cost $3 more then the other . What was the price of the more expensive scarf

Make the cheaper scarf = x and the more expensive scarf = x + 3.
Put these into an equation to find the value of x. Make x and x + 3 equal $25, the total of the two scarves.

x + x + 3 = 25
Combine like terms.

2x + 3 = 25
Subtract 3 from both sides.

2x = 22
Divide both sides by 2.

x = 11

Now take the equation for the more expensive scarf, x + 3, and plug in 11 for x.
11 + 3 = 14

The price of the more expensive scarf is $14.00.
