C. To give police and the government more power to protect security. In the fallout of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the government passed a bill that was circulating since little after the event, giving the FBI more vigilance power by use of the National Security Letters; in essence, the bill gave the authorization to surveillance agencies to monitor more freely U.S. citizens in search of terrorist treats.
