A boat can travel 48 miles downstream in 4 hours and can make the return trip in 6 hours. find the speed of the boat in still water.

Downstream = 48miles/ 4 hours = 12 miles/hour
Upstream = 48 miles/6hours = 8 miles/hour
the Average= (12+8)/2 =20/2 = 10 miles/hour.
