Please write x + y = 24 3x + 5y = 100

as:

x + y = 24
3x + 5y = 100

What does this arrangement tell us?

There are a total of 24 test questions.

Since x represents the # of 3-pt questions, 3x is the total # of points obtained by getting 3-pt questions correct.

Since y represents the # of 5-pt questions, 5y is the total # of points obtained by getting 5-pt questions correct.

The greatest possible # of points earnable here is 100.
