It started to racially integrate "black" rock and roll music into "white" dance culture.

The Buddy Deane Show was an adolescent TV program about dance; it was made by Zvi Shoubin and the host was Winston "Buddy" Deane, and publicized on WJZ-television in Baltimore, Maryland from 1957 until 1964. It was like Philadelphia's American Bandstand.
