descending thoracic aorta
The descending thoracic aorta is the continuation of the descending aorta. It is located in the thorax and contained in the posterior mediastinal cavity. The aorta is one of the largest arteries in the body and branches off to the bronchial arteries among others.
The bronchial arteries supply the lungs with nutrition and oxygenated blood. They travel with the bronchi to the bronchioles.
