1. Subtract 5x from both sides.
3y=8x-7y-5x
2. Simplify 8x-7y-5x to 3x-7y
3y=3x-7y
3. Add 7y to both sides
3y+7y=3x
4. Simplify 3y+7y to 10y
10y=3x
5. Divide both sides by 3
10y/3=x
6. Switch sides
x=10y/3
Your answer to your problem is
x=10y/3
.

Rearrange this equation
5x+3y=8x-7y so that all x terms are on one side and all y terms are on the other:
10y
5x+3y=8x-7y => 10y = 3x, and x = ----------
