When you are training for an event , do you notice a decrease in improvement and a level out of performance

When you train for an event, for example a marathon race you run each day for training and each day you add a mile. As you train though the days leading up to  the event it gets easier and easier to run the miles. Your performance does not decrease as you train it improves and increases as you train.
