Fear can cover up the truth. It was believed that Marbella was beat and raped by her own father. Her father threatened her not to tell anyone, but the damage done to her was noticeable so her father came up with the plan to blame Tom. Tom was a nice guy and Marbella was scared what her father would do to her if she didn’t lie for him.
