What part of fungi resembles the roots of plants?

The answer is hyphae. They are long, branching filamentous structures that are analogous to roots in plants. They secrete enzymes that digest the substrate extracellularly. The hyphae then absorb the digested nutrients. While the cell wall of the plants is made of cellulose, that of fungi as made of chitin
