If a sprinkler waters 1 over 14 of a lawn in 1 over 2 hour, how much time will it take to water the entire lawn?

a whole is just 1, or say 14/14 or 3/3 or 7/7 and so forth, which gives us 1 whole.

we know the sprinkler can do 1/14 of the lawn in 1/2 hr, how long will it be for the whole lawn?

\bf \begin{array}{ccll} lawn&hours\\ \text{\textemdash\textemdash\textemdash}&\text{\textemdash\textemdash\textemdash}\\ (1)/(14)&(1)/(2)\\\\ 1&x \end{array}\implies \cfrac{\quad (1)/(14)\quad }{1}=\cfrac{\quad (1)/(2)\quad }{x}\implies \cfrac{1}{14}=\cfrac{\quad (1)/(2)\quad }{(x)/(1)} \\\\\\ \cfrac{1}{14}=\cfrac{1}{2}\cdot \cfrac{1}{x}\implies \cfrac{1}{14}=\cfrac{1}{2x}\implies 2x=14\implies x=\cfrac{14}{2}\implies x=7
