The find the missing length of a right triangle we use the Pythagoras theorem that says;
a²=c²-b²,
b²=c²-a² and
c²=a²+b².
Where a and b are the two sides of the triangle and c is the hypotenuse.
Now we are looking for the hypotenuse,

So, c²=a²+b²
=28²+15²
=1009

c = √1009
= 31.765 in

To the nearest tenth,
Answer = 31.8 in

To solve this problem you must apply the Pythagorean Theorem:
a) Taking 28 in as the hypotenuse of the right triangle (the largest side), you have:
a^2=b^2+c^2
Where "a" is the hypotenuse, and "b" and "c" are the other sides of the right triangle. Then, you have:
a=28 in
b=15 in

c^2=a^2-b^2 c=√(a^2-b^2) c=23.6
The answer is: 23.6 in

b) Taking 28 in as a one of the sides that are smaller than the hypotenuse, you have:
a=√(b^2+c^2)
b=28 in
c=15 in
