Answer: The Paris treaty replaced the Kyoto treaty in 2016. The goal was to set goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and report their progress to the world. It was believed it would stop or avoid major and irreversible climate change. Developed countries were hesitant to agree because they believed that it wasn't about climate change rather financial advantage. Also it would hurt the economy showing no benefits.

The goals of the Paris agreement was to reduce carbon emissions and a global warming goal of an average 2 degree Celsius. The main reason why the agreement has remained elusive and especially for developed countries is because of the tough balancing act of resource use and economic development as outlined in the sustainability debate.
