there are several reasons that made the son of the second president not to win the reelection bid but the main reason is because of mass outcry led by president Jackson that his ambitious ideas were ignorant of the poor masses and that they sought to empower the elite. there was also widespread feeling that Quincy sought to expand the federal powers through these ambitions.
