Why is it extinct becuase it was the largest ape speccies it needed alot of food the Gigantopithecus died at the end of the ice age in china the ice age was a hard time but it managed to survive until the ice age ended and the climate of earth changed and by it's huge size it slwoed it down in the new climate nobodys ever seen a Gigantopithecus with there own eyes and the first fossils was found mid 1900s so it isn't impossible that the's giant apes still exict but just from a facts extremly unlikely :)
