Look at the picture.



\Delta ADC\ and\ \Delta CDB\ are\ similar\ therefore\\\\(y)/(4)=(9)/(y)\ \ \ \ |cross\ multiply\\\\y\cdot y=4\cdot9\\\\y^2=36\to y=√(36)\to y=6
