Answer: Perimeter of a rectangle is 2 times the length plus 2 times the width. That makes our equation-

2L + 2W = P

Fill in what we know for the width and perimeter for W and P, and we get-

2L + 2(64) = 284

Now solve for L

2L + 2(64) = 284

2L + 128 = 284 simplify by multiplying 2(64)

-128 -128 subtract 128 from both sides of the equation

2L = 156

2L/2 = 156/2 divide both sides of the equation by 2

L = 78

The length of the parking lot is 78 meters!

Check your answer-

2(78) + 2(64) = 284

156 + 128 = 284

284 = 284

We now know we have the correct answer!
