z=−1 or z=−3

Explanation:

Subtract 3z + 5 from both sides

z2+7z+8−(3z+5)=3z+5−(3z+5)

z2+4z+3=0

Factor left side of equation

(z+1)(z+3)=0

Set factors equal to 0

z+1=0 or z+3=0

z=−1 or z=−3
