what is a general method for adding a decimal with two decimal places to a decimal with three decimal places. Give an example.

Answer:

To add decimals, follow these steps:

Write down the numbers, one under the other, with the decimal points lined up.

Put in zeros so the numbers have the same length (see below for why that is OK)

Then add, using column addition, remembering to put the decimal point in the answer.

you can't really line up the numbers, but you should line up the decimal points. if there are extra spaces above or below the last number, add a zero. that is called annexing. that means to add more. This will not mess up the equation.

Example:

24.650 -Add a zero

+ 32.789
