14 AND 22

Explanation:

LET THE LARGER NUMBER BE X AND SMALLER BE Y

X + Y = 36 …….1

2X – Y = 6…… 2

WE SOLVE SIMULTANOUSLY

ADDING EQATION 2 AND 1

2X + X + Y + (-Y) = 36 + 6

3X + Y – Y = 42

3X = 42

DIVIDING EACH TERM BY 3

3X/3 = 42/3

X = 14

THEN PUTTING X = 14 IN EQUATION 1

14 + Y = 36

Y = 36 – 14

Y = 22
