How do I solve this problem, please show me in detail as I am missing something I am missing. I have tried the problem any way I can think of and never end up with the correct answer.

To do this you have to make both numbers have a common denominator (the bottom number).

43/8=215/40 and -16/5=-128/40

Then you subtract -128/40 from 215/40

If you multiply 10 by 7/2 you get 70/2, which simplifies to 35.

You now have 35-343/40
