In terms of the 1400s, motivation would come mostly from religious conversion. The 14th century is known as the second to last century of what was called the Middle Ages; in those ages, people really took a deep interest to religion conversion because it’s where most power came from. People also during this time manipulated others into doing things and putting it on the name of God.
