Given endpoints (x₁, y₁ ) and (x₂, y₂ ), then midpoint is

[0.5(x₁ + x₂ ), 0.5(y₁ + y₂ ) ]

Given

(0, 1) and (5, 7), then

midpoint = [ 0.5(0 + 5), 0.5(1 + 7) ] = (0.5(5), 0.5(8)) = (2.5, 4)
