There are 29 males and 12 females in science class

Solution:

Given that a science class is a total of 41 students

Also given that number of males is 17 more than the number of female

So, number of males = 17 + number of female --- eqn 1

To find : number of males and number of females in class

Total number of students in class = number of males + number of females

41 = number of males + number of females

Substituting eqn 1 in above equation

41 = 17 + number of female + number of females

41 = 17 + 2( number of females)

2( number of females) = 24

number of females =
(24)/(2) = 12

Thus from eqn 1 we get,

number of males = 17 + number of female = 17 + 12

number of males = 29

Thus there are 29 males and 12 females in science class
