Number of turkey sandwiches sold is 513

Solution:

Given that cafe sells turkey sandwiches and steak sandwiches

Let "t" be the number of turkey sandwiches sold

Let "s" be the number of steak sandwiches sold

Cost of 1 turkey sandwiches = $ 4

Cost of 1 steak sandwiches = $ 6

Also given that Last month, the cafe sold a total of 925 sandwiches

So, we can frame a equation as:

number of turkey sandwiches sold + number of steak sandwiches sold = 925

t + s = 925 ---- eqn 1

Also given that cafe sold $4524 worth of sandwiches

So, we can frame a equation as:

number of turkey sandwiches sold x Cost of 1 turkey sandwiches + number of steak sandwiches sold x Cost of 1 steak sandwiches = $ 4524

t * 4 + s * 6 = 4524

4t + 6s = 4524 --- eqn 2

Let us solve eqn 1 and eqn 2 to get values of "s" and "t"

Multiply eqn 1 by 4

4t + 4s = 3700 --- eqn 3

Subtract eqn 3 from eqn 2

4t + 6s = 4524

4t + 4s = 3700

( - ) ------------------------

2s = 824

s = 412

Substitute s = 412 in eqn 1

t + s = 925

t + 412 = 925

t = 925 - 412

t = 513

Thus the number of turkey sandwiches sold is 513
