Explanation:

q1 3x + 4y = -5

q2 -5x + y = 16

from q2 y = 16 + 5x

Put into q1

3x + 4 (16 + 5x) = -5

3x + 64 + 20x = -5

3x + 20 x + 64 = -5

23x = -5 -64

23x = -69

x = -69/23

x = -3

y = 16 + 5(-3)

y = 16 - 15

y = 1

(x,y) = (-3, 1)
