First because there is a p² we can put that in the brackets already.

Then we need to find numbers that times together to give 8

8 4×2 8×1

So we only need one of these two pairs and to decide that we need to see which one adds/subtracts to form 6 (in the middle).

4-2=2 which is wrong

4+2=6 which is correct

So 4 and 2 would go in the gaps:

(p+4)(p+2)
